Film Final Projects 2021

For the Film Final, you will choose one of the following projects. You must have the topic approved by me before you begin.


Picture
#1 - Compare or Contrast a novel or short story to it's film version. 
  •        You can create a stack of Google Slides
  •        You can write an essay
  •        You can record a Podcast
  •        Comparing an original story to the film version - STUDY.com

#2 - Script, film and edit a short Silent Film in the tradition of the early
       Twenties.
  • Must be in Black and White
  • Must utilize a lower frame rate
  • Must include music representative of the film era
  • A phone app like 8mm is fine for shooting in the look of the era
  • You can also use a camera and edit it in school or with an editing app
  • EXAMPLE - The Doll

#3 - Complete a full personal review of a film using the Film Element Wheel.
  • Can be a film from any genre.
  • I advise choosing a film with some depth
  • The review can take the form of an essay, a video, a podcast or a Google Slide stack
  • Film must be approved

#4 - Create a Sutori timeline on a specific film genre or film history element.
  • Use a free account at www.sutori.com
  • Example of a Sutori Timeline
  • ​Must include at least 25 text and photo elements to qualify for credit

 #5 - Build a functional Zoetrope and film strip.
  • Examine the small Zoetrope in my collection (sturdy materials are preferred)
  • Provide a design based on research and for inspection
  • Create at least one strip for display
  • Present the piece to the class on an scheduled day

       #6 - Script, film and edit a short animated scene.
  • Animation can be drawn, clay, paper or other
  • Credit give for number of animations (ie 24fps equals fluid motion)
  • Use phone apps like Stop Motion Studio, Blender, FlipAClip, Powtoon etc
  • Student animation examples (YouTube)

#7 - Choose an extended scene or scenes from a film. Analyze the scenes
        with a scripted voice over. Use the NY Times Anatomy of a Scene as a
​        template.
​

#8 - Script, shoot and edit a full film sequence, using as many technical and
​       theme elements as possible. (For example - Mis en Scene)
  • Use your cell phone or a camera to acquire the footage
  • Use a phone app or dedicated editor to edit the footage (ie weVideo, Magisto , Imovie etc)
  • The sequence should include a few scenes and several shots (One shot sequences will not be accepted)
  • Create a two column script before shooting. 
  • ​Use accepted film vocabulary and shot descriptions. (ie Medium Shot, Zoom, Pan, Cut To etc)
  • ​Save your video in the mp4 format.

#9 - Recreate a film scene by re-shooting it shot by shot. (must include a
​       written description of the shots and action)
  • Use your cell phone or a camera to acquire the footage
  • Use a phone app or dedicated editor to edit the footage (ie weVideo, Magisto , Imovie etc)
  • The sequence should include a few scenes and several shots (One shot sequences will not be accepted)
  • Create a two column script before shooting.

  • ​Use accepted film vocabulary and shot descriptions. (ie Medium Shot, Zoom, Pan, Cut To etc)
  • ​Save your video in the mp4 format.

#10 - Create a mini documentary in one of the three styles - on the origins of
​         an everyday object. 
  • Use your cell phone or a camera to acquire the footage
  • Use a phone app or dedicated editor to edit the footage (ie weVideo, Magisto , Imovie etc)
  • The sequence should include a few scenes and several shots (One shot sequences will not be accepted)
  • Create a two column script before shooting. 
  • ​Use accepted film vocabulary and shot descriptions. (ie Medium Shot, Zoom, Pan, Cut To etc)
  • ​Save your video in the mp4 format.
