Discussion Towards the end of this school year, a student who is struggling with cancer joined the class. I'd worked remotely with the student via a tutor but it was obviously an incomplete experience for a tech class. Nonetheless, we struck up a unique friendship and we were both happy to finally meet.
I asked the student what skill we should work on in the limited time left in the year. Video editing on Adobe Premiere was the answer. This was an extremely ambitious goal and one where I needed to work closely with the student, who told me the subject was going to be "me", since I was retiring at the end of the year. The project request tugged at my heartstrings, and I was honored. So we set out to make a video We decided that not only would we make the video, but the student would include a voice-over track describing the stages of construction for the video. I did not include the V/O track because the student is an underclassmen and does not have a media consent form signed, which our school district requires. Without that part of the soundtrack, the video is admittedly lacking for the EdX assignment. Regardless, I used the video as an example of video editing technique. With the exception of the music bed and a few short video clips, all the images are owed by me or designed by the student and I. I've included a digital evaluation form for those two short pieces. |
